Nordeste is considered as the most beautiful part on São Miguel island for many people, many locals and visitors even think of it as the 10th island of the Azores. When you will be there, you will truly understand why. Full of panoramic viewpoints over the ocean and the coast, Nordeste is also known for its waterfalls, vegetation and flowers such as hydrangeas.

Our first stop will be the viewpoint of Santa Iria , which offers wide and breathtaking views over the North coast of São Miguel. The next stop is the town of Nordeste, where we will pass by some points of interests such as the bridge and the church. We will also stop by Pico do Bartolomeu if the weather allows it, Centro Ambiental do Priolo , where the guide will give you some details, but the entry is not included, Ponta do Sossego and Vista dos Barcos .

After this morning full of interesting information about São Miguel, we will have lunch in a local restaurant and go towards a famous viewpoint called Vigia da Baleia (the Whale’s lookout). We cannot miss the renown park of Ribeira dos Caldeirões!

We will still have some time to stop at the viewpoint of Coroa da Mata to enjoy the coastline before slowly going back to Ponta Delgada in the afternoon.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Where is located Nordeste?
A: In Portuguese, Nordeste means Northeast, so it is located on the northeastern side of São Miguel island. It is quite far from Ponta Delgada, about 50 minutes without stopping, but the long trip is totally worth it.

Q: What is the Priolo?
A: The Azores Bullfinch is the most threatened and the second rarest bird in Europe. Its population lives only in the eastern part of São Miguel island and is estimated to be made of about 1,000 individuals, a number that increased thanks to local organizations protecting the species. Futurismo is proud to be a partner with the project Life Priolo, which supports and promotes their conservation.

Q: I am allergic to some food, can I still eat in the local restaurant?
A: We will always try our best to meet your needs. Please inform us at least 48h prior to the tour if you have any food restriction.
