Nordeste is considered as the most beautiful part on São Miguel island. When you will be there, you will truly understand why. It has also been considered to be the most flower-rich region in all Europe. After the pick-up in Ponta Delgada at 9 am, our first stop will be the viewpoint of Salto do Cavalo’s peak, which offers wide and breathtaking views over Povoação and the coast beyond the old town. Did you know that Povoação was the first ever place to be settled on the island back in the 15th century?
Nordeste is home to the Azores Bullfinch, the Priolo. These tiny birds of only 30g and 16cm are endemic to São Miguel and are considered an endangered species.
After this morning full of interesting information about the wildlife of São Miguel, we will go downtown in Nordeste to have lunch in a local restaurant and taste some regional food. On the way back to Ponta Delgada, we will have several stops on wonderful viewpoints offering amazing panoramas over the coast. Don’t forget to take pictures!

Q: Where is located Nordeste?
A: In Portuguese, Nordeste means Northeast, so it is located on the northeastern side of São Miguel island. It is quite far from Ponta Delgada, about 50 minutes without stopping, but the long trip is totally worth it.
Q: What is the Priolo?
A: The Azores Bullfinch is the most threatened and the second rarest bird in Europe. Its population lives only in the eastern part of São Miguel island and is estimated to be made of about 1,000 individuals, a number that increased thanks to local organizations protecting the species. Futurismo is proud to be a partner with the project Life Priolo, which supports and promotes their conservation.
Q: I am allergic to some food, can I still eat in the local restaurant?
A: We will always try our best to meet your needs. Please inform us at least 48h prior to the tour if you have any food restriction.
