Jeep Tours

Nature makes us acknowledge what once seemed prohibited, and the intimate relationship with the hidden points of the island unveils all of its mysteries.

About Jeep Tours

Feel the rush, surprise, and emotion in an all-terrain vehicle, this adventure will take you to the core of secrets. We will take you where nobody has ever reached before.

Experience moments of adrenaline in our jeep tours. The adventure through the interior of the islands will begin!

The trips are made in 4×4 vehicles properly equipped, capable of taking you to places little explored. It is intended for those who want to discover new perspectives and unusual scenarios on the Azores Islands in a more adventurous way.

We pass on secondary roads, which are not usually found in the usual tourist routes. They are narrow paths, dirt paths, called “canadas” in Azorean, and are mostly used by farmers.

Moments with happy cows

One of the very special moments on these tours is to find herds of dairy cows on the roads. They are used to grazing outdoors, and many of them graze on agricultural land along the regional roads, and therefore, farmers need to move them at two different times of the day.

The journey is made with one person in front to warn drivers of what they are going to encounter and another at the end of the herd, to ensure that no animals are lost. And we can guarantee that happy moments are more usual than rare.

The spectacularity of our roads

During the summer, especially between mid-July and early September, the roads are full of hydrangeas. It is beautiful to see these flowery paths. In fact, São Miguel has one of the most beautiful and flowery roads you can imagine. It is stunning how a simple route for cars can be so magnificent and colorful!

And throughout the year we can find large trees and basalt stone walls that divide the green pastures, it makes us remember patchwork blankets!

Enter virgin nature that remains untouched

Take advantage of the stops along the routes to take pictures and contemplate the surrounding nature. We pass by untouched places, where you are really able to feel the power of nature, which has created incredible lagoons in the middle of volcanic calderas.

And there are other mystical places where the water in the Atlantic Ocean is naturally heated by a volcanic fissure.

Half-day or full-day tours

All jeep trips are accompanied by an experienced guide, who better than anyone knows how to show you the usual places of interest.

Futurismo Azores Adventures has jeep tours for half a day or a full day with guaranteed passage through both the most iconic and secret sights in the Azores. These are exceptional tours for those who want to connect with nature and learn more about the Azorean traditions.

  • The Basics

    What is Whale Watching?

Whale and dolphin watching is the practice of observing whales and dolphins (commonly called cetaceans) in their natural habitat.

What is the best season to do Whale Watching in the Azores?

All year-round, we have sperm whales and several dolphin species. If you want to see the biggest whales in the world, the best season for whale and dolphin watching in the Azores is Springtime – March to June.
During this time of the year, baleen whales are migrating and passing by our waters. Thus, it is possible to see blue whales, fin whales, and sei whales among others.
The summertime is also ideal to spot pilot whales, beaked whales, or spotted dolphins for example.

What are the chances of seeing a cetacean?

98%. Even so, we don’t stop at this rate and offer you a new tour totally for free if you did not see any of these amazing creatures (whale or dolphin) during the tour.

How do you locate the whales and dolphins in the open waters of the Atlantic Ocean?

Futurismo has more lookouts than any other tour operator in the Azores so we always know where the animals are. Lookouts are people on the coast looking for cetaceans with binoculars.
Apart from this ancestral method, we can locate the whales and dolphins based on acoustic data thanks to our directional hydrophone which will allow us to hear and record sounds emitted by cetaceans audible to the human ear.
