How geology formed the Azores
Geology has influenced Azorean History and people for almost six centuries. We managed to observe this influence at various levels, such as, for example, in the geographical occupation of the islands, in the use of natural resources, in traditions, in religion, in emigration, and even in tourism, it is an increasingly noticed reality.
Natural monuments
In São Miguel, it is possible to dive into the depths of the Earth by visiting Gruta do Carvão, the natural pools of hot water and iron in Furnas and Caldeiras da Ribeira Grande. Gruta do Carvão is a place classified as a natural monument. It is a lava tunnel with a wide variety of geological formations as a result of volcanic activity on the island of São Miguel.
It is always accompanied by a guide who explains the formation of the cave, in addition to the certified guide of Futurismo.
Undoubtedly a must-visit, especially if you like geology it is a great educational experience. Futurismo Azores Adventures offers guided tours to discover and experience the best that the nature of the Azores has to offer.
