Due to the location of the Azorean archipelago, more than 300 American and European birds can be found here, making it interesting for birdwatchers of all nationalities.

More than 33 species of birds nest in São Miguel, many are endemic subspecies, but one of them, the Azorean Bullfinch, is an endemic specie and can therefore not be found anywhere else in the world.
